NORFOLK, Va. (January 16, 2013) – Two Special Warfare operators (SEALs) were presented with the Legion of Merit during an awards ceremony January 10. The Legion of Merit is awarded for exceptionally meritorious conduct in performing outstanding service.
Naval Special Warfare Group TWO Commodore, CAPT Bob Smith said, “A classic SEAL mission is one that ends up, no one really knows that it happened. I don’t even know the specifics of the mission.”

The Legion of Merit was authorized by an Act of Congress on July 20, 1942. It may be awarded to United States military personnel or to military or political figures from foreign governments.

“It’s a pleasure to pin these high-level awards on our teammates. It’s one of the greatest pleasures that a commanding officer has is to recognize accomplishments, especially in front of their teammates,” Smith added.
